Richie Pryor, MA, LMHC
Owner & Operator | Certified Relational Life Therapist
Richie Pryor, MA, LMHC, is the Owner and Operator of Cape Cod Couples Counseling Clinic in Plymouth, Massachusetts, where he specializes in helping couples struggling with communication problems, recurring conflict, emotional disconnection, trust, intimacy, betrayal, and other relationship challenges.
Richie earned his Master’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Massachusetts Boston and is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). He is a Certified Relational Life Therapist and has additional training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Pragmatic Experiential Therapy.
Before specializing in couples counseling and marriage therapy, Richie developed a broad clinical background working with individuals, children, parents, and families.
His early human-services experience included working with Parents Helping Parents, where he developed parenting-support programs and trained volunteers to facilitate support groups for parents across the country. His work included supporting parents in sober homes and correctional settings.
Richie later spent years providing therapy to children and families in a Plymouth-area clinical setting, giving him firsthand experience with how individual mental health, childhood experiences, parenting, and family dynamics can affect relationships.
His clinical experience also includes working in a major psychiatric hospital, supporting adults experiencing significant mental health challenges and psychiatric crises.
Specializing in Relational Life Therapy for Couples
Today, Richie's clinical work is focused primarily on couples therapy and marriage counseling using Relational Life Therapy (RLT).
RLT is an active and direct approach that helps couples move beyond repeatedly discussing the same problems and begin identifying the underlying patterns that keep those problems alive.
Richie helps partners recognize behaviors such as criticism, defensiveness, emotional withdrawal, controlling, people-pleasing, resentment, anger, and shutting down. Couples learn to understand where these protective strategies originated while also taking responsibility for how they affect their relationship today.
A central part of Richie's work involves helping partners recognize when they are reacting from what RLT describes as the Adaptive Child and teaching them how to respond from the healthier, more grounded Wise Adult.
The goal is not to determine who is right and who is wrong. It is to help each partner understand their contribution to the relationship dynamic and develop the skills necessary for accountability, healthy communication, boundaries, emotional intimacy, and repair.

Professional Experience Meets Real-Life Experience
Richie also brings something to couples therapy that cannot come exclusively from textbooks or clinical training: decades of experience navigating a long-term relationship.
He has been with his wife for nearly four decades, and they have raised two sons together. Like every long-term couple, they have experienced their own challenges, transitions, losses, disagreements, successes, and lessons along the way.
Richie brings both his clinical training and understanding of the realities of long-term relationships into the therapy room.
He believes couples don't need a therapist who simply watches them argue.
They need someone willing to help them identify the pattern, tell the truth about what isn't working, take responsibility for their part, and learn how to do something different.
Helping Couples Change the Pattern
At Cape Cod Couples Counseling Clinic, Richie's goal is to help couples understand not only what they are fighting about—but what keeps happening between them when they fight.
When couples can recognize the pattern, they can begin changing it.
Richie works with couples experiencing:
Communication Problems • Recurring Conflict • Emotional Disconnection • Infidelity & Betrayal • Trust Issues • Sex & Intimacy Concerns • ADHD & Relationships • Parenting Conflict • Financial Conflict • Resentment • Separation & Divorce Concerns
